I have a long history within the peri-operative field, both as a practitioner and as an educator. Following Qualifying in 1980 I completed a period of consolidation before moving to specialise in Cardiac and Neuro-surgery in London. Subsequently I was appointed Principal Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) responsible for Neuro-surgery and Anaesthetic Imaging services. After completing eight years in this branch of theatre I moved back to Kent to take up a post as Clinical Principal ODP (Education). In 1995 I was appointed as Senior Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University where I remains to date. Over the past 25 years I have been actively involved in conference presentation in relation to ODP Education and Professional Development of the ODP Profession, I led the development of a framework to support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for the ODP leading to professional registration in 2004. In the same year I was awarded the Association of Operating Department Practitioners Fellowship for outstanding service to the ODP profession.
