About this Speaker

I have taught Early Years Education and Care for 13 years at Canterbury Christ Church University, working primarily on the employment routes. Practice experience extends beyond my teaching at the University, having worked alongside families and young children for over 35 years. Most successfully leading practice in an outdoor nursery and Forest School winning Nursery of the Year in 2014. I am particularly interested in the benefits of outdoor environments and nature on young children. My concern has been growing over some years related to the health inequalities of young children; this includes a research interest in sleep deprivation, diet and lack of physical exercise in childhood. I have published several articles and in 2013 my first book titled 'The Growing Child'. Work in this area has taken me to a number of other countries across Europe and more recently developing practice in kindergartens in China and Hong Kong.
