I teach across several art modules at Canterbury Christ Church University and am also Programme Director for the BA (Hons) Arts in Education degree which started in 2019. I also supervise students at both Masters and Doctoral level and examine at other universities.
I originally trained in ceramics before becoming a teacher. I taught in primary, secondary and special schools across the South East before entering Higher Education (at the University of Greenwich and then Christ Church).
I’m very involved in visual art education – as past President of the National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD), Co-Chair of the European Regional Council of the International Society for Education through Art (InSEA), and as a member of two Local Cultural Education Partnerships (LCEPs). I’m an editor for the International Journal for Art and Design Education (iJADE) and work with a wide range of arts and cultural organisations (including Arts Council England, Bridging organisations and Ofsted) and am frequently asked to represent education in different forums.
My interests lie in the processes of learning in and through the arts, arts leadership (which formed the basis of my own Doctoral study) and ensuring children and young people have access to a broad and rich arts-education.
